Originally starting out as a licensed translation of the French science-fantasy magazine Métal hurlant, Heavy Metal was published between 1977 and 2023 as an science fiction and fantasy comics magazine. Known primarily for its blend of dark fantasy/science fiction, erotica. Flouting the restrictions laid out by the Comics Code Authority, it stood apart from rival magazines by featuring explicit nudity, sexual situations, and graphic violence.
